It’s All in the Attitude!
Did you know your attitude and self-talk can determine if you reach your goals?
Having a goal is a great first step, but without a plan, a positive attitude and supportive self-talk, it’s not very likely you’ll reach your goals. If you’re working on changing something in your life for the better (and who isn’t right?), then it’s important to start really listening to your self-talk.
You may have recently started a fitness routine but are you still thinking “Why bother, it never works anyways” while you walk on the treadmill? Or you vowed to eat healthy, but as soon as you decided to do that you went out and bought the biggest cookie you could find because, “You failed last time anyways and can’t stick to anything, so I might as well just fail right now”?
If this sounds like you then it’s time to change that self-talk and make attainable goals so you don’t set yourself up for failure.
Decide what you’re trying to change.
Make it very specific (not lose weight or get healthy).
Set attainable, small goals. Include as much detail as you can.
Ask yourself if you can reach those goals, be honest with yourself.
Reevaluate your goals and change them daily, weekly, monthly.
Each morning and/or night focus on what you’re doing well, not what you haven’t done yet (you’ll get there, it’s a process).
Say or write down things you already do well and are proud of in your life. Look at this daily and add to it.
Acknowledge and praise yourself when you reach your goal and then make another attainable one.
Recognize your slip-ups but don’t dwell on them. Move on and forgive yourself.
To not say anything negative about yourself for one whole day. If you can do that, keep adding a day to that challenge until you can reach one entire month.
To smile and laugh more.
To change the way you say things. If you hear yourself saying, “I can’t do that” or “I did that wrong” change that sentence to make it a positive statement “I’ll do that next time” or “I’ll be able to do that very soon!”
It’s Time to Seek the Help of a Qualified Professional When:
You know what to do, but are having a hard time sifting through all the health information to do it.
You feel overwhelmed with the changes you should make. You don’t know where to start.
You feel confused about what your friends and family members are telling you.
You think change is too hard so why bother.
You find yourself having to start over every hour or every day.
Set Goals. Write them down. Smile + Laugh. Ask for Help!
Here's to your health!
