The Peanut Butter Machine!

I’ve been telling people about the “peanut butter machine” for well over 20 years. How can this be if I’ve only been a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist for 16+ years? Well, I grew up going to the health food store and getting oh so good FRESH peanut butter from the machine behind the counter. I loved it when we had a fresh, warm batch!!!

What you ask: Peanut butter right out of a machine, ground fresh in front of your eyes?! That’s right - it couldn’t get any fresher than that!

The Good News:

  • All natural (no added sugars, fats or thickeners).

  • No need to stir it! Yep, stir proof for all those who never bought Adam’s because you had to stir it...ONCE.

  • Usually machines contain organic peanuts (non-organic peanuts are typically a high pesticide food).

  • Light to no salt. Whoot whoot!

  • Tastes great! As my boyfriend said the first time he had it: “It tastes like peanuts! That stuff is great!”

  • The unique texture is perfect for the smooth and crunchy lovers! Trust me, you just have to try it.

  • You’ll find fresh almond butter (for a higher price) right next to it! Yep yep. Score!

  • Your kids will love to flip the switch and grind it themselves. Be ready for your boys to make some lovely bodily function comments. Hee hee

The Bad News:

  • You have to find it. They are often found at the end of the aisle in regular stores, try the health food section, and don’t be afraid to ask. I say this last one because I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard “I couldn’t find it”, from my clients, in a store I frequent. Trust me, it’s there!

  • Like any natural oil or food, it can go rancid, especially when it’s hot. So, I like to keep mine in the refrigerator and keep a small, fresh, smaller container on the counter. If you have kids, they’ll be sure to help you eat it up quickly! I eat mine fast enough that I can keep it in the cupboard, but this just depends on how fast you eat it and how much you buy (I buy the right amount for my household to do this). TIP: You can buy a small amount the first time to try it!

  • Your kids might turn their nose up if they’re used to sweet peanut butters. Add some honey or all fruit jam and remember, “Only the cook needs to know”. Like all foods, if you don’t make a big deal out of it, neither will they. It helps if they see you enjoying it too.

  • Like any new food, it can be intimidating.
