Decoded: Why See a Dietitian?

Let me help you understand why you may want to see a Dietitian....

Before we get started, Please Note: It is important to look for the RDN (Registered Dietitian Nutritionist) credential to properly identity who is a qualified, and who is not.

In many states, the term nutritionist IS NOT regulated. That’s right, you can call yourself a nutritionist - if you like! So, a Registered Dietitian is a qualified nutritionist. Be forewarned that a nutritionist without an RD/RDN credential may be a self-proclaimed expert and may not actually be qualified to give accurate nutrition advice.

Top 5 reasons to choose an RDN when seeking out nutrition advice:

① To incorporate the necessary information into your daily life. How many of us know what to do but we have trouble actually “doing” it?!

② To overcome barriers that stand in the way of reaching your health or weight goals and often identify hidden barriers.

③ To sift through all of the confusing media information and answer any questions about what is accurate and what is a myth.

④ To achieve personal goals and resolve medical issues. This is anything from weight loss and sports nutrition, to cholesterol reduction, diabetes control, gastrointestinal distress, inflammation, and emotional and stress eating.

⑤ To save you time and money because we’ve done the work for you! We know which products taste great and we’ll come up with ideas to specifically meet your needs and preferences. Plus, we have more time than your MD to truly listen to you and get to the root of the problem.

Remember, most MDs have little to no nutrition training; that is just not in their training.

If you find any of the following scenarios below to be true, it might be time to visit a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) to help you get healthy and meet your nutrition goals for life:

  • You want to lose 5-10 pounds (or more) but feel stuck.

  • You find yourself saying, “I’ll start tomorrow”...every day.

  • You’re always hungry and not losing weight.

  • You try not to eat every day and then find that you overeat from 3 pm on.

  • You can’t seem to get motivated to workout or don’t know where to start with exercise.

  • You punish yourself in your mind after you eat or try to have an extra hard workout from a “bad” weekend.

  • You just don’t know what to eat and the media isn’t helping clarify this!

  • You feel guilty every time you eat.

A dietitian can help you overcome these stumbling blocks:

  • You often go longer than 4 hours without food.

  • You’re dragging during workouts and/or wake up exhausted.

  • You don’t eat before or after a workout to lose weight, but it’s not working.

  • You have stomach issues, high cholesterol, headaches/migraines or other issues that don’t seem to get resolved.

  • You have emotional, social and/or stress eating.

  • You don’t want to deprive yourself or feel restricted.

  • You can’t get your picky kid to eat veggies.

  • You’re constantly in “diet mode”.

Bottom Line: Most people know instinctively what they should do — move more, eat less.

An RDN (like myself) will help you get there! Invest in your future by finally doing it right this time! Did you know I work remotely with clients?
